Cooling the Schooling

Parents want to see a school environmental policy tailored over the next few years.
To improve waste management,
work toward installation of water tanks (application for federal community water grant has been lodged)
use rain water fot toilets
install our own kitchen garden with composting, etc
replace our canteen'd disposable plastic utensils with compostable and recyclable alternatives, etc.

We are arranging for our event to be the subject of an environmental audit by students at Wollongong University. We can then use this audit to improve ourselves next year.

I have been pointed to a great website www.modelevent.com.au which consults with festivals and events on their sustainability.

Also, noted that Peter Garrett made a visit to Otford School last week to commend their environmental practices.

I would like to hear from other schools that are making changes toward sustainable practices.
